Kratos' second wife is arguably more important to the God of War story, orchestrating an entire game's plot instead of passively being the reason for Kratos' anger like his first wife. Thus, Faye's death and cremation resulted in Kratos and Atreus being found by Baldur, leaving their home to eventually reach Jötunheim, and there learn of Faye's legacy and Atreus' true identity as Loki. She also instructed Kratos and Atreus to spread her ashes on the highest peak in the Nine Realms, located in the giants' realm of Jötunheim. She had constructed a magical barrier in the woods around their home which would conceal her presence form the Norse gods, but instructed Kratos to chop down the corresponding magical trees for her funeral pyre. 2018's God of War opens with Faye's cremation, which - unbeknownst to Kratos - initiates her plan to have her true identity revealed posthumously to her husband and son.įaye's full name was Laufey, a notable Frost Giant heroine, according to God of War's severed head, Mimir. Faye seemingly spent most of her time educating their son, while Kratos hunted and provided for the family. Kratos' wife in God of War apparently met a more pleasant end than Lysandra, dying at home of an undisclosed cause. At some point, Faye learned Kratos' true identity as a god, but kept it hidden from Atreus. They married, had a son named Atreus, and lived a secluded life. When Kratos eventually settled in Midgard, he fell in love with a woman named Faye, whom he believed to be a mortal. After his campaign against the gods of Olympus is complete, though, Kratos leaves Greece to start another family. Throughout the series' original run through Greek mythology, visions of Kratos' deceased family are used in attempts to manipulate him, and he even briefly reunites with Calliope in Elysium Fields during the events of Chains of Olympus. The ruse only served to disillusion Kratos, though, and he vowed to take the revenge he would ultimately accomplish with Ares' death at the end of the original God of War. Eventually, Lysandra's death (along with Calliope's) was used as the impetus of the entire God of War series. Lysandra desperately wanted Kratos to change his ways, hoping he would leave the service of Ares and cease his violent campaigns. Kratos was once married to a Greek woman named Lysandra, with whom he had a daughter, Calliope. ![]()
